Mazda first unveiled the MX5 at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show, debuting the lightweight, two seater roadster to a chorus of excitement. This passion became abundantly clear, considering that in North America alone, the MX5 sold over 400,000 vehicles between it’s debut and 1997.
Focusing heavily on the lightweight nature of the MX5, Mazda manufactured the roadster at a time when production of small two seater vehicles was almost at an end. It completely rejuvenated the industry, by bringing a new sense of fun and enjoyment from driving that had perhaps been forgotten.
