Information About the DeLorean DMC-12
First in production from 1981, the DMC-12 was the DeLorean motor company's only major sports car for the US market. Well noted for its broad design and iconic 'gull wing' style doors, there is of course one thing that this now iconic model is known for which we'll come to in due course.
However, the DMC-12 proved a tough sell in all senses of the word. With a 2849cc engine pumping 130 bhp, a top speed of 130 mph, and acceleration from 0 - 60 mph in 8.3 seconds, compared to other similar cars of the time it wasn't exactly a speed demon.
It was this, plus many other contributing factors that led to DeLorean being shuttered altogether after it went into liquidation in 1982, with only 9,000 of the original DMC-12 models ever being produced.

Cut forward to 1985, and the DeLorean DMC-12 found a fanbase it never could have imagined garnering when it was used as the famous time machine driven by Marty McFly and Doc in the popular Back to the Future trilogy of sci-fi films starring Michael J. Fox.
Among the DMC-12's famous fans are Black Eyed Peas frontman will.I.am, and James Bourne of the British pop band Busted, whose hit song "Year 3000" makes reference to the DeLorean time machine from the films.
