Information About the GMC Vandura

The GMC Vandura was produced by Chevrolet and General Motors Truck Company (GMC) in the incarnation we have available to book for driving experience days here on TrackDays between 1980 - 1983.

The Vandura had already been in production since 1964 when the third generation was introduced. The substantial differences for the 1980 model was new rear-view mirrors on both driver and passenger doors, and electronic spark control in selected models.

A heavy van weighing in at 5049 lbs, the powering on the GMC Vandura comes from a 5.7 litre naturally aspirated V8 engine, which pumps out 165 bhp. This enables it to accelerate from 0 - 60 mph in 7.2 seconds, with achievable top speeds of 93 mph.

Cool Facts About the GMC Vandura

Discussion of the GMC Vandura can’t be made without discussing what bought it the most fame - its appearance, in a distinctive black and red livery, as the van of B.A Barracus (portrayed by Mr T) in the cult US 80s TV series The A Team.

As such, and with the recent film revival of the show in 2010, it is now one of the vehicles TrackDays features in our Movie Car driving experience packages, which you can browse the complete listings of above and book at venues and locations all over the UK.

Models of this Vandura that were produced in 1982 that housed a manual transmission are now very rare and highly sought after, as they were the last such models to have both rounded headlamps and column shift manual transmission and ignition switch on the steering column.
