Lotus Evora 400 Driving Experiences

Lotus began making plans to expand their existing fleet of cars back in 2006. One of the main new models at the centre of this was their Evora model, which was far larger than any of their existing cars to date. This eventually, over the following three years, evolved into the Lotus Evora 400.

This is a Lotus Car but definitely not as you know it. Whilst the design principles of lightness and simplification of the body panels to enhance greater performance is in place (it weighs in at about 1,395 kg), this is kitted out on an engine that’s perhaps the most uninhibited to ever sit beneath the bonnet of a Lotus sports car.

On top of the Evora 400’s 6 speed manual transmission, lies a fine tuned, roaring 3.5 litre V6 engine built by Toyota, offering out an incredible 400 bhp, which records some of the fastest speed stats to date for a Lotus: lightning quick acceleration from 0 - 60 mph in 4.1 seconds, and achievable top speeds in excess of 186 mph.

As with most Lotus cars before it, the Evora 400 received universally positive praise from the motoring press and industry upon its launch.

In the year of this particular model’s launch, both EVO magazine and Autocar magazine awarded it as both ‘Car of the Year’ and ‘Britain’s Best Driver’s Car’ for 2009 respectively.

It also had the seal of approval from Jeremy Clarkson when reviewed for the BBC’s long running motoring show Top Gear, praising its handling, performance and comfort, describing it as ‘the only car I've ever driven, ever, which is both a killer attack dog and an old sofa.’
