Upottery Airfield Smeatharpe, a former World War II airfield nestled near Honiton in Devon, still carries a rugged charm - and with it, some back-to-basics facilities. Visitors will find an open-air spectator area with good track views, plus access to the pit zone for a closer look at the action. As the site is exposed to the elements, dressing appropriately for the weather is strongly advised. These sessions take place in a safe, off-road environment and are designed to teach the core foundations of driving, ideal for building confidence and developing skills long before hitting public roads. Aimed at 10 to 17-year-olds, they also offer parents a practical way to ease into the cost of future driving lessons.

During each session, young drivers will get hands-on experience with essential techniques such as braking, accelerating, gear changes, steering, signalling, and more, laying down the groundwork for a smooth transition into real-world driving.
