First designed and produced in 1959 by a team that was headed up by Alec Issigonis, the Mini quickly proved itself to be a hit. So much so, that it’s starring performance in the classic 60s film The Italian Job, starring Sir Michael Caine, all but assured it of legend status.

When you book a Mini driving experience day with us, you’ll soon see that they may be miniature in size, but that they’re just as enjoyable as any supercar or racing car in our fleet. At two of our venue locations in Oxfordshire, we offer our Classic Mini Thrill, which unsurprisingly has become one of our most popular bookings. In 1959, with post-war Britain grappling with fuel shortages, the Mini arrived like a breath of fresh, petrol-scented air. Designed by Sir Alec Issigonis, it was a masterstroke of engineering, squeezing four adults into a car so compact it made everything else on the road look bloated. Front-wheel drive, a transverse engine, and brilliant space-saving design didn’t just make it fuel-efficient and affordable - they rewrote the rules of car-making entirely.

Originally sold under the Austin and Morris names, the Mini soon became a global icon, manufactured everywhere from England to Australia and even Chile. Over the years, it spawned countless variations: the sporty Mini Cooper, the boxier Clubman, and the not-so-mini Countryman, to name a few. By the time it was voted the second most influential car of the 20th century in 1999, its legacy was set in stone. The Mini isn’t just a car; it’s a British legend - proof that clever design and a bit of cheek can go a very long way.
