The origins of the Mobile Bat 'Super Hero' Car can be traced back to 1955, with the Lincoln Futura Concept Car, part of the Lincoln brand of Ford Motor Company. It was given its debut unveiling at the Chicago Auto Show in January 1955, and was quite unlike any other car at the time.
However, as with many concept cars, it never progressed to a further iteration for public consumption and driving. Lincoln sold their original concept car, which had cost $250,000 to build, to George Barris, a renowned auto customiser, for just $1!
10 years later, and after being sat behind the back of his shop forgotten and unloved, Barris was approached by US TV executives to create the main car for a new TV serial based on the popular Batman series by DC Comics. He instantly recognised the Futura's potential, with its forward thinking and distinctive "bat wing" design.
And with only a tight turnaround of three weeks, he had brought the now legendary 'Batmobile' that went on to be used as Batman's main car in the series to life. The car made its debut appearance on US TV in January 1966.
With Driving Experience, fans young and old alike of the caped crusader can now get the chance to drive in a lovingly maintained recreation of that original customised concept car, as it is one of our vehicle options for our range of Famous Movie Car experiences. Adults and Juniors can book to drive on these starting from as little as £39.
