Are Sustainable Fuels Key to Preserving Classic Cars and Bikes?

Are Sustainable Fuels Key to Preserving Classic Cars and Bikes? - News

Electric Vehicles (EVs) are arguably the most popular they have ever been. With the climate crisis looming, mainstream car manufacturers such as Volkswagen, Nissan and of course, the trailblazers, Tesla, have been channelling their efforts into producing the best EVs which may just turn out to shape the future of driving in the decades to come.

Despite the many positives of the developments within the EV world and the benefits this may have on the environment, there is a pretty big question poised on many car lovers' lips, where will this leave the future of classic cars and motorbikes? With the aim of banning the production of new diesel and petrol cars by 2035, vehicles that rely on these types of fuels could be in danger of disappearing from our roads in the near future.

However, there has been a recent exciting development within the sustainable fuel world which may keep these vintage vehicles from ticking over for longer without putting the environment at risk. To provide somewhat of an answer to what might happen to the future of classic cars and motorbikes, this is where the recent development in new, sustainable fuels may come in.

To help older cars move away from the polluting fuels of petrol and diesel, a British company called 'Sustain Fuels' has developed a new fuel that is compatible with older petrol and diesel vehicles that claim to be better for the environment.

Made from agricultural waste and the leftover chemicals from production, this company has produced a fuel that can reduce emissions by around 80% compared to mainstream petrol. Relying on the leftover CO2 that has been absorbed whilst growing plants, this fuel isn't zero emission but is re-used as opposed to producing new waste. Combined with straw and other agricultural waste products, it will cost between £5-6 per litre and is compatible with older classic vehicles.

Although not perfect, Sustainable Fuels aren't claiming to be, but rather, focused on making fuels for classic cars and bikes that cause less damage to the environment than current petrol and diesel. This is an exciting step forward for the classic vehicle world, as it promises a future fuel that could be compatible with these older engines, and not come at the cost of causing further damage to the environment.

Fear not, classic car lovers, as these gorgeous vehicles will no doubt be ticking along our roads for decades to come, we just have to continue to work on ways to ensure sustainability and minimise the impact on the environment, which is precisely why this recent step forward in manufacturing environmentally conscious fuel is so significant.
