A recent data collection has revealed that 25% of cars involved in traffic collisions this year were subject to poor tyre conditions.
It has been determined that poorly maintained or illegal tyres contributed to 25% of car accidents in 2022, based on a Department for Transport Road Accident Collision Report in which a vehicle defect was highlighted, i.e. tires or brakes failing.
However, in comparison to 2021, where 36% of road accidents were caused by unsafe tyres, this is a significant improvement. This positive change in percentage leads us to believe that motorists are beginning to realise and understand the importance of safe tyres, and are determined to get them road safe despite concerns over the cost-of-living crisis.
With October fast approaching, marking the season when the UK starts to experience more frequent wet weather, there is still work that needs to be done in creating awareness to ensure that all motorists are careful and are conducting the relevant safety checks during these wetter conditions.
Dan Jones, Operations Manager at DrivingExperience.co.uk, expressed: "Tyres are the main point of contact between a vehicle and the road. They must be checked at all times, especially as we're quickly heading into winter."
"Our suppliers we work with on our driving experiences constantly inspect the condition of their tyres, and some cars used on these experiences can get through around 100 of them a year." He continued, "Even though they host these experiences under safe and controlled settings that are away from the major roads, they know more than anyone how vital sturdy, durable tyres are in keeping drivers and other road users safe when it's under real life road conditions."
