Dodge Charger V8 Driving Experiences

First unveiled at the New York International Auto Show in 2005, Dodge unveiled - in collaboration with DaimlerChrysler - a new police version of their long running and popular Charger model, and at DrivingExperience we offer this for several driving experience days at venues across the UK, chiefly (pardon the pun) our Dodge Charger Interceptor 14 Lap experience package.

The main differences you’ll notice with this is the police performance-tuned steering, with the gear shifter also mounted in the steering column, heavy-duty brakes and a severe duty cooling system, as well as an aluminium grille plate which can mount radio equipment, sirens and lights.

Being a police vehicle means the Dodge Charger V8 is necessarily super swift to help the cops deal with lawbreakers in real life chases and arrests. With a souped up 5.7-litre Hemi V8 engine on 380 bhp, it has a top speed of 145 mph and accelerates from 0 - 60 mph in 5.1 seconds.

Numerous police forces across North America now use the Dodge Charger V8 in both marked and unmarked variations as a patrol car. But it’s also become a popular choice of vehicle for many international police forces in Canada, Mexico, Chile, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and the Czech Republic.

In 2009, Michigan State Police did some speed trials on several different pursuit vehicles. Of these, the Charger V8 came top for acceleration, cornering, and braking, seeing off the likes of the Dodge Magnum and even the slightly faster V6 Charger.
