Jaguar Mark 2 Driving Experiences

Successor to their line of Mark 1 cars that had been in production from 1955 to 1959, Jaguar unveiled their Mark 2 saloon model just as the 50s gave way to the swinging 60s, in the process creating and manufacturing one of the most iconic cars of that decade.

Even on sight alone, you know that you’re driving a refined and elegant saloon car, with Jaguar’s classic design hallmarks of a burred walnut dashboard, sumptuous leather seats and beveled wings.

Powering on the majority of the Mark 2 models - including the one we have available for driving experiences here on TrackDays - comes from a 2483 cc Jaguar XK6 engine, offering out 120 bhp. It cruises smoothly from 0 - 60 mph in 7.8 seconds, and can achieve top speeds of 160 mph.

TV and film buffs will be familiar with the Jaguar Mark 2 in one of two notable appearances. It was the car driven by the late John Thaw in his title role of the long running ITV drama series Inspector Morse.

However, a Mark 2 model that was in considerably less better condition was driven to the Lake District by Richard E. Grant and Paul McGann, in the classic 80s British black comedy film Withnail and I.
