Lamborghini Superleggera Driving Experiences

Lamborghini supercars are, by nature, known for being a bit brash, stocky and bullish. So when the Italian supercar giant announced their ‘Superleggera’ (Italian for ‘superlight’) take on the Gallardo in the spring of 2010, more than a few eyebrows were raised.

Weighing in at 2954 lbs - making it a whole 396 lbs lighter than the standard Gallardo - thanks to its extensive carbon fibre frame and monocoque, this, as you might expect, vastly improves this supercar’s aerodynamic capabilities once it hits the road or track circuit.

The V10 engine in the Gallardo Superleggera is turbo boosted too, to 5.0 litres, which allows it to power out a mighty 530 bhp, helping it cruise effortlessly from 0 - 60 mph in 3.8 seconds - that’s 5 milliseconds quicker than the standard Gallardo - and a top speed in excess of 196 mph.

The Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera quickly found itself dubbed as ‘Baby Lambo’ by the motoring press. Even in spite of this colloquial nickname, it still proved to be a hit as always. In their initial review, Autocar magazine said ‘Only the Porsche 911 and Ferrari 430 have similar focus. And neither of them looks or sounds anything like as good as this.’

EVO magazine were similarly glowing in their appraisal, saying that the Gallardo Superleggera was ‘Fast, loud, analogue and very rewarding … it’s a reminder of how great the Gallardo is, lightened to the tune of 80 kg with an extra 10 bhp.’
