The Audi R8 V10 may not immediately seem to be different from it’s V8 counterpart, but first impressions can be deceiving. First showcased at the Detroit Motor Show in 2009, it went into production that same year, turbo boosting an already mighty supercar to another level altogether.

And the main upgrade that gives this model its name is of course the 5.2 litre V10 FSI engine, packing a superb 518 bhp - that’s 105 bhp more than the V8. It also offers an aerodynamic driving experience, offering precise handling for the driver with its rear wheel drive chassis that offers excellent grip of the road.

Some jaw dropping stats, that’s for sure: it cruises from 0 - 60 mph in a swift 3.8 seconds, and a top speed of 196 mph is possible in the R8 V10, a figure that leaves many of its contemporaries in the shade.

The R8 V10 was the immediate toast of the motoring press after it first rolled off the production line in 2009. AutoCar were particularly impressed by its V10 engine upgrade, stating that this model ‘shows that too much of a good thing can be wonderful’.

Car Magazine were equally full of praise, giving it its top 5 star rating in their review, noting that it was ‘perfect … packed full of torque, flexibility and refinement for daily driving coupled with a race-car soundtrack for when you’re in hooligan mode’.
