Ford Gran Torino Driving Experiences
The Ford Gran Torino is famous the world over as the car used in the popular 70s TV series Starsky & Hutch. An American muscle car with surprising power and performance for one of its era, it hums with a V8 engine that bumps out 168 bhp and a top speed of 140 mph, and at TrackDays it is available to book for a selection of fantastic driving experience days at venues and locations nationwide.
Information About the Ford Gran Torino
The famous Ford Gran Torino is a renowned American muscle car produced between 1968-1976. Even though it was built and sold in the US, the car was named after Turin, a city in Italy, considered to be ‘the Italian Detroit’. In 1972 the Torino had a revamp with three new models being added to the fleet, one of which was the Gran Torino.
The particular model that we offer to book for driving experiences at venues across the UK here at TrackDays is the 1974 model, perhaps best known to fans of the popular US 70s cop show Starsky & Hutch which it starred in, and which we’ve kitted out in the same distinctive red and white striped livery as its on screen counterpart.
The experience packages we offer it for to be booked onto includes the single Ford Gran Torino Blast, or it can be driven alongside as many as five other famous cars of the big and small screen with our Movie Car packages which offer great value and an experience behind the wheel you’ll never forget.
You’ll be surprised just how powerful the Gran Torino is when you take to the wheel of it. It is powered by a large 400cc V8 engine that produces 168 bhp, which is very impressive for a car built in the 70s, with achievable top speeds of 140 mph and acceleration from 0 - 60 mph in 8.1 seconds.
Cool Facts About the Ford Gran Torino
The popularity of the Ford Gran Torino’s use in Starsky & Hutch also translated into commercial success for Ford during the show’s run on air, as they released a replica model, limited to 1,000 units, during 1976. Some customers who purchased one even added extras on themselves after purchase to get it as close to the car featured on TV as possible!
Gran Torinos on the whole are very collectible amongst Ford enthusiasts, and much sought after on the second hand market even to this day. In fact, with Starsky & Hutch being the subject of a 2004 movie revamp, the replicas that Ford themselves built back at the show’s height are much rarer to come by in full working condition.
